반가워요! 저는 에멜라인 하이스예요.
はじめまして! 私はエメライン·ハイスです。 Hello! I'm Emmeline Haiss. In April 2017, I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's degree in Asian studies! During my time at UC, I spent three semesters studying abroad at Korea University in Seoul. I've been a strong proponent of learning by immersion ever since I spent a gap year studying in Japan through the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program after graduating high school. While I was living in Japan, I glimpsed bits of Korea through Japanese K-BBQ restaurants and music promotions in Japan by Korean artists. The grammatical structures of Japanese and Korean are more similar to each other than they are to any other language, so on days when I tired of endless kanji memorization I would switch to studying hangul (the phonetic Korean alphabet). It was around this time that my dream of becoming a polyglot was born. I'm currently working towards my goal to teach English in South Korea. I hope that my experience with the language and culture will allow me to form closer relationships with my students. English is a mandatory subject in South Korea, but I don't want my class to feel like a chore. I want to create a comfortable classroom environment that promotes meaningful language learning and prepares my students to use English in the world beyond their college entrance exams. I hope to inspire others to pursue foreign language studies, which I believe is key to creating an understanding that will bring the people of the world closer together. |
